Betsy DeVos Continues To Fight The Good Fight For The Educational Freedoms Of The American People

Betsy DeVos has always been a woman who has worked hard for the people of the United States. Over the years, she has chosen many causes to champion, but one of these causes stands out in her life more than the rest. That cause is educational choice, and she believes that every American family deserves this freedom. Educational choice speaks to legislation that supports the rights of Americans to send their children to a school they deem worthy. Most Americans, currently, have to send their kids to a public school based on the zip code of where their home is located, but DeVos doesn’t believe it needs to be this way.

There are many quality private and charter schools in the United States, and the main reason why there aren’t as many youngsters enrolled in these kinds of schools as they are in public schools has to do with one simple thing; money. Most American families simply can’t afford to pay the tuition of private and charter schools. Betsy DeVos took notice of this early on in her life when her husband, Dick DeVos, and herself visited Potter’s House Christian School. She loved the energy at the school but was disappointed after she discovered that many of the families that sent their kids there were making great financial sacrifices in order to do so.

Betsy DeVos knew she could afford to send her kids to the school, but she wanted to help others that couldn’t. She began to make donations in order to help specific families pay the tuition for their children. To this day, she continues to support Potter’s House Christian School through large donations. In fact, DeVos and her husband have set up the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation, which continues to support Potter’s House Christian School and many other schools as well as educational initiatives. Some of these include Compass College of Cinematic Arts in Grand Rapids, Rehoboth Christian School, Ferris State University in Big Rapids, and Northwood University in Midland.

Betsy DeVos grew up in Holland, Michigan and worked with her father in his auto parts store when she was younger. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in business economics while attending Calvin College and went on to serve as the chairman of the Michigan Republican Party for six years. She is the chairman for the Windquest Group, which is an investment group that focuses on clean energy technology and companies, and, more recently, she became the Secretary of Education for the United States. Betsy DeVos has always been known as a reformer who hopes to make lasting changes in the educational system of the U.S.A. Whenever a piece of legislation gets put through that she supported, it is not just her who wins. It is every single American family who wins, too.
